2.4.4  Entity Descriptions:

ANSI D-20
A table of national standard codes which identify traffic offenses.

ARREST OFFENSE
An offense cited against the suspect at the time of arrest.

ARRESTED INCIDENT SUSPECT
The event of arresting an individual suspected of criminal actions in an incident.

ATTORNEY
A person authorized under applicable law to practice law.

BAIL
A monetary amount set to release a suspect from jail, to ensure his future attendance in court.

CHARGING DOCUMENT
An official document constructed by the Prosecutor's office and presented to a judicial court containing the charges filed against a suspect.

CITATION
An order, issued by law enforcement, to appear before a magistrate or judge at a later date. Usually used for minor violations (e.g. traffic violations); avoids the taking of a suspect into immediate physical custody.

CITY
A center of population that has definite boundaries and may be incorporated with legal powers granted by the state.

COMMUNITY PLACEMENT
A period during which the offender is subject to conditions of community custody and/or post release supervision which may begin either upon completion of the terms of confinement or at such time as the offender is transferred in lieu of earned early release.

COMMUNITY SERVICE
Compulsory service, without compensation, performed for the benefit of the community by the offender

COMMUNITY SUPERVISION
A period of time during which a convicted offender is subject to crime-related prohibitions and other sentence conditions

COMPLAINANT
One who applies to the courts for legal redress by filing a complaint (i.e. plaintiff). Also, one who instigates prosecution or who prefers accusation against a suspected person

CONFINEMENT
Imprisonment, the act of being confined or having limited freedom

COREY CODE
A table of codes used by some law enforcement agencies and the Sentencing and Guidelines Commission (SGC) to identify groupings/levels of RCWs.

CORRECTIONAL JURISDICTION
An agency or unit with authority over the administration of a sentence.

COUNTY
An administrative subdivision of a state in the United States having administrative, judicial, and political powers and functions.

COURT CLERK
An elected or appointed official of a court which maintains court case records. For a Superior Court, the clerk may schedule trials, assemble juries, and perform other administrative duties.

DEFENDANT JUDICIAL CHARGE
The official charge or charges filed against a particular defendant.

DISPOSITION CHARGE
This is the final charge reported as a result of a court case. A disposition charge may be scored with another disposition charge to determine sentencing.

DOC CRIME CODE
A table of codes used by the Department of Corrections to identify similar crimes.

DOL TRAFFIC VIOLATION
A table of codes used by the Department of Licensing to identify specific traffic offenses.

DRIVER LICENSE
A permit issued by the Department of Licensing allowing the operation of motor vehicles

EVIDENCE
Facts, either tangible or non-tangible, that can be used to reconstruct an incident.

FINANCIAL OBLIGATION
The monetary amount assigned to the defendant for payment, as part of a sentence in a judicial court. Also called Legal Financial Obligation. (LFO)

FINGERPRINTS
An impression of the lines and whorls on the inner surface of the end joint of the finger. Unique to each individual.

FIREARM
Any firearm reported by law enforcement to the Department of Licensing when a concealed weapon permit is issued

IBR OFFENSE TYPE (NCIC)
A national table of codes used to identify offenses. Used by the Incident-Based Reporting system. (IBR)

INCIDENT
An event reported to a law enforcement agency. For the purposes of this project, we will be dealing with Criminal and Civil infractions only.

INCIDENT DRUG ITEM
Any illegal drugs involved and/or confiscated in an incident.

INCIDENT OFFENSE
An offense is a felony or misdemeanor breach in the law. An incident offense is any offense(s) reported in a given incident

INCIDENT PERSON
An individual involved in an incident. This may be a witness, a victim, or a suspect.

INCIDENT PROPERTY ITEM
Any personal or private property involved in an incident.

INCIDENT REPORT
Report filled out by law enforcement to record a particular incident.

INCIDENT SUSPECT
An individual suspected of breaking the law in a particular incident.

INCIDENT SUSPECT BOOKING
The event of booking an individual suspected of criminal actions in an incident.

INCIDENT SUSPECT JUVENILE
If the suspect in an incident is a juvenile, there are different considerations than if they were adults, these differences are captured here.

INCIDENT SUSPECT OFFENSE
The offenses against a suspect in an incident.

INCIDENT SUSPECT-VICTIM RELNSHIP
This table of codes explains the relationship between the incident victim and the incident suspect.

INCIDENT VEHICLE
Any motor vehicle involved in an incident.

INCIDENT VICTIM
An individual who is the object of a crime. Such as the victim of a robbery is the person robbed.

INCIDENT VICTIM-OFFENSE RELNSHIP
This table of codes explains the relationship between the incident victim and the incident offense(s).

INCIDENT WEAPON
Weapon used in the incident.

INCIDENT WEAPON VICTIM
This links the weapons used against a victim in an incident, to the victim.

INCIDENT WITNESS
A person who saw, or can give first hand account of the incident.

ITA BOOKING
A request by a mental health agency to book a person for mental health reasons through the Involuntary Treatment Act. (ITA)

JUDGE
An elected or appointed public official with authority to hear and decide cases in a court of law

JUDICIAL CASE
A judicial proceeding for the determination of innocence against a defendant.

JUDICIAL CASE DEFENDANT
An individual defending or denying the charges against him/her in a judicial court of law.

JUDICIAL CASE SENTENCE
The judgment formally pronounced by the court or judge upon the defendant after his conviction in a criminal prosecution, imposing the punishment to be inflicted.

The specific sentence

JUDICIAL CHARGE
The accusation of a crime by a formal complaint, information or indictment.

JUDICIAL COURT
An official body belonging to the judicial branch of government, charged with hearing and deciding cases of law.

JUDICIAL PROCEEDING
Includes Pre-Trial Hearings, Preliminary hearings, probable cause determination hearings and trial.

LAW
All of the rules of conduct established and enforced by the authority, legislation, or custom of a given community, state, or other group.

LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY
A local, state, or federal agency established to maintain and uphold the law.

LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY UNIT
A division or section of a law enforcement agency

LAW ENFORCEMENT CASE
The compilation of law enforcement information about a particular incident.

LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER
An individual who works for a law enforcement agency and has authority to uphold the law.

LOCAL ORDINANCE
A statute or regulation of a municipality or county.

OFFENDER
A person convicted of a criminal charge

OFFENDER TREATMENT
Any treatment sentenced to the offender by a court of law

OFFENSE/CHARGE
A superset relating to multiple subsets of offenses and/or charges

PERSON NAME
What an individual is known by.

PERSONAL PROPERTY ITEM
All items belonging to a suspect at the time of booking.

PHOTO
An image of a person.

RCW
Revised Codes of Washington. The official laws of Washington State, passed by the legislature.

RESTITUTION RECIPIENT
A person or place identified as the recipient of court ordered restitution

RTTO/WRECKER
Registered towing companies

SMT
Identifying marks. (SMT = Scars, marks and tattoos)

STATE
A specific state within the United States.

SUBJECT PERSON
An individual. For this project, person is a collection of high level data about someone, no matter where they fit in to the criminal justice process.

SUMMONS
An official order, for a person to appear in a judicial court on an appointed date and time.

VEHICLE
Any motor vehicle whose information is collected by the Department of Licensing or another jurisdiction

VESSEL
Any boat or vessel whose information is collected by the Department of Licensing or another jurisdiction

WAC
Washington Administrative Codes. Used to enhance and clarify the RCWs.

WARRANT
An official order, for arrest of a person suspected of one or more criminal offenses.
